Zombie Walkers
Who knew that Fallout 4 would make a great zombie game one day? The Zombie Walkers mod transforms feral ghouls into zombies, with more damage able to be dealt out on the head as opposed to other areas on the body. If you're in the horror mood, this mod is definitely right up your alley.
More Map Markers

Simple Seasons allows users to transform the usual browns and grays of the Commonwealth into something a little more cheery, complete with flowers, grass, and brightly-lit skies.
Unified Clothing Overhaul
The Unified Clothing Overhaul is great in that allows players the ability to transform into whatever character they may please all while maintaining all the benefits of wearing armor.

Fallout 4 update 1.8 went live yesterday, bringing with it the long-awaited ability for PlayStation 4 players to use mods. Nearly 200 game tweaks are now live for the PS4, and many of them actually work. It’s a process, really.
As with any brand-new functionality, there are bound to be some snags. For example, Neeher’s Firelance weapon mod looks like an ordinary weapon instead of its PC version, as custom textures can’t be applied. Also some folks are reporting it has no sound. Or just doesn’t work at all. Might be a mod conflict.
Basically, as mentioned back when PS4 mod support was confirmed again, any mod that tries to use external assets probably won’t work. Like natezilla11's Gold-Trimmed Power Armor mod, which it doesn’t seem like anyone is getting to work properly.
So what does work? Technically, any mod that relies on preexisting models and textures should be doable, or mods that tweak code without requiring physical assets. D0c_shock’s Pleasing Piper Attitide Adjuster doesn’t seem to have any complaints. Masternips’ Dismemberment Overhaul, which allows everybody to lose limbs, has been downloaded nearly 10,000 times and seems fine, though there was a problem with headshot deaths that required a new version.

The basic rule of thumb here is to check out the comments section of any mod you plan on downloading over at Bethesda’s Workshop site. With mod-hungry PS4 Fallout 4 players grabbing files left and right, download numbers aren’t a good indicator of mod success.
And don’t get too excited about Guidion’s Birthday Suit mod. It’s just underwear.

It was a long, long wait for Playstation 4 owners to finally get in on the wasteland modding action, and when it arrived, Fallout 4 fans weren't exactly pleased by the extra limitations above and beyond what's found on the Xbox One edition.
Even now, months after mods have been available, the number of PS4 entries continues to lag far behind what's on tap over on the other side of the console fence. Sadly, due to the restrictive nature of what's allowed on console mods, it's unlikely we're going to get an epic total conversion like you'd see on the PC.
The lack of space and inability to add in huge new assets just won't allow for such major changes to the base game. Don't let that kill your enthusiasm for PS4 modding entirely though, as there's still several overhaul mods that significantly change up the Fallout 4 experience on the Playstation platform.
Over the next several slides we cover some of the best of the best in PS4 overhaul mods that you should be trying out immediately.
Unified Clothing Overhaul
For a change in the game's aesthetics and how you can make your character look while stomping across the Commonwealth, this is the mod that should unquestionably be downloaded straight away.
The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug. (2013) Available to buy. Games Warner Bros. UK Icon The Hobbit Trilogy. Blu-ray, Digital Download or DVD. Martin Freeman in The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) Sean Astin at an event for The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (2013) Orlando Bloom in. The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies (2014). Dean O'Gorman. The hobbit: the desolation of smaug 123movies.
The UCO mod completely opens up the clothing opportunities, allowing you to craft essentially any outfit you can imagine while still have the benefits of armor. If it's something that appears in the game anywhere on any NPC, you can now equip it as your outfit.
Don't like how your current armor looks but prefer its stats? No problem, with UCO you can make exterior clothing invisible, so the defensive qualities remain while the cosmetics are shifted to whatever style you prefer underneath.
Overgrowth Forest Overhaul
Like a much more invasive and complete version of the Simple Green mod (see the next slide), this Overgrowth offering turns most areas of the Commonwealth into a much more verdant forest.
It makes the entire Fallout 4 experience less dreary and empty-seeming, with vegetation overtaking the Boston area long after the radiation has subsided 200+ years after the bombs first dropped. The color scheme is probably the most frequently sited visual problem with the modern Fallout games, and mods like this handily take care of that concern.
Simple Seasons - White, Red, Green, and Yellow
A clever way of getting around some of the restrictions on adding new external assets in PS4 modding, this series of mods tweaks the colors of grass, trees, objects, and vegetation to let you change the Commonwealth to whatever season you desire.
While it may not radically change the game in terms of content or weaponry, it does completely alter the feel of the story with a different season overtaking areas rather than just having everything be that washed out brown/gray color.
Shown above is an example of Simple White, which takes us from eternal nuclear winter to actual, regular old winter. Even more striking is Simple Red, which sets the trees afire with fall leaf colors for a much less monochromatic playthrough.
Wacky Weapons Workshop
The lack of external assets really hampers weapon mods on the PS4, but one forward-thinking player put together something really interesting just by changing how weapons can be crafted.
Now you can put together just about any combination imaginable - including some that really shouldn't exist, like adding a fatman launcher to a revolver. Who doesn't want to launch nukes from their handgun?
The mod also lets you manually add in multiple legendary effects to a wackified weapon, allowing you to craft some truly outrageous guns and melee weapons without having to kill legendary monsters and hope you randomly get something good.
Remember seeing some of the more bizarre robotic companions when Automatron first came out and laughing at how ridiculous some combos could become? Get ready for that, in weapon form.
Scrap That Settlement
Having primarily played Fallout 4 on the PC, it didn't occur to me until seeing this mod that console players are still having to deal with Bethesda's terrible settlement system in its original form. My sincerest apologies, console peons, because that sounds like a real bummer.
If you want more control over how your settlements look, this very nifty mod lets you scrap almost everything -- grass, rocks, bodies, and all sorts of objects that weren't originally scrappable.
New versions of this mod are slated to land soon that will allow you to scrap whole creatures and structures as well.
Zombie Walkers
The feral ghouls in the Fallout universe have always flirted with being zombies, but they never quite go the whole way there. Putting you in an episode of The Walking Dead (or any given classic zombie flick), this overhaul mod takes ghouls and makes them into a shambling horde of the living dead.
Unfortunately, this PS4 version is a bit stripped down from the PC mod of the same name, but it still gets the job done for console players. Feral ghouls are renamed to zombies, sprinting is disabled, and health is modified so that head shots appropriately take them out. A few animations are also tweaked as well for more of a horror feel.
These modified ghoul zombies also come in big herds that you don't want to get caught in! Needless to say, this pretty drastically changes the feel and tone of a Fallout 4 playthrough. Hiding under a dumpster won't keep you safe here.
Outfield Retreat Home
Don't care for the home options in Diamond City or want to have everything at your fingertips in one centralized location?
This RV home not only looks fantastic -- complete with Nuka Cola themed knick knacks all across the outside -- but also has multiple connected crafting locations, storage space for your bobblehead collection, clean water for survival runs, and a bed offering the well rested bonus.
Plenty 'O Exploration
This is an overhaul mod that fans have to put together every time a new Bethesda entry arrives, especially in the Fallout universe. You'd think eventually the developer would get on this without the players having to do it..
The game maps are always huge, with tons of areas to explore, but then you arrive at a specific location and most of the buildings and hallways can't be accessed and are just cosmetic. Whether doors that can't be opened or piles of rubble blocking your way, there's a distinct lack of indoor exploration.
Fallout 4's rendition of this perennially needed fix, Plenty 'O Exploration, is currently in beta for PS4, but still provides a drastically needed service by adding in many new interior segments for a huge increase in the amount of area actually available to explore.
Cheatmaker
Last but not least is Cheatmaker, which overhauls the game by putting everything at your fingertips with no effort required whatsoever! After crawling out of the vault, the Sole Survivor can craft anything at all with no materials required. Want some sweet power armor straight off the start? No problem!
There are a whole lot more Fallout 4 mods out there ready and waiting to be downloaded than the nine PS4 overhaul mods we've covered here. What's your favorite PS4 overhaul mod we should try out? Let us know in the comments section!
If you're still on the hunt for even more ways to modify your Commonwealth wasteland experience, be sure to also check out these mods as well:

I tried to find a list of mods that could be considered must haves for the PS4 that doesn't include a ton of mods I'd consider to be cheats, so after several months of tinkering I have a list myself. In my opinion these are all excellent additions to the game that don't compromise the integrity of the game; I'll list a few cheat mods along with other excellent mods that didn't quite make the cut as honorable mentions.
*USO - Unlocked Settlement Objects is a great addition for anyone who likes making settlements- it can be an almost overwhelming amount of new things to build with but you'll quickly get to grips with it once you've figured out how to navigate the menus. This mod does cause the game to lag out for a few seconds when you open workshop mode, but that's a problem with how mods are forced to function on console.
*Place Anywhere Tool - Another great tool for building settlements, this helps you place things where you want to place them. Simple, effective and does exactly what it says on the tin. *Integrated Commonwealth- Quite a few mods by ANDREWCX are on this list it turns out. This is for the folks who have the season pass (or at least Automatron, Far Harbor and Nuka World)- now you'll be able to find DLC items and creatures rarely in the commonwealth and in the other DLC areas- creatures from the DLCs won't start appearing until you complete the Mechanical Menace quest. *STS- Scrap That Settlement is a great tool that finally let's you scrap all that nasty stuff you're forced to leave around your settlements. Gone are the trashpiles, random bushes and piles of leaves. Granted some might consider this a cheat because of how many resources scrapping can net you, but realistically the only more rare resource you'll find yourself with barrels of is fertiliser. *The Beantown Interiors Project, Stumble Upon Interiors and Lexington Interiors- I'm growling these three together because they all offer the same function.. they give you more interiors to explore! It really makes the game fresh again to be able to wander round and spot a door in a well trodden city that you've never been in before and inject the excitement of exploration back into your experience. Some may note that I've left out another mod that creates plenty more exploration but that's coming up next.. *Plenty'o'Exploration OR Minuteman Watchtowers- Plenty'o'Exploration gives you more interiors and a few exteriors to explore, mostly around the Concord area, while Minuteman Watchtowers adds nine new exterior locations to explore. These are both great mods and I would recommend using one but not the other.. unfortunately there's one location both mods use and they end up conflicting. *Dismemberment Overhaul (original version)- Makes the game gorier and more satisfying, and can lead to some rather funny scenarios. There's a version where headshots kill but that's up to you if you want to use it, for the purpose of this mod I'm trying to avoid cheaty mods. *TCE - The Companions Enhanced is a mod that makes your companions look better and be somewhat more useful. It also fixes Mama Murphy's zombie face which is a plus. *Simple Settlers (Mortal Edition)- Gives settlers names, increases the number of variants for their appearance and provides a small chance to recruit functional child settlers. Just a nice bit of immersion added. *Better Graphics and Weather - Really, this does what it says on the tin, just improving the lighting and feel of the game at times- nights are actually dark! Some prefer Weather Redux which is a great mod but adds new weather systems I'm not really a fan of, but I'd definitely recommend giving either a try! *Water Redux - Lots of the water mods make all water crystal clear or all murky; I find this mod strikes a nice balance and manages to get the water looking just right. *Insignificant Object Remover - This helps with performance by removing about a quarter of the grass and rubbish strewn about the commonwealth that the game generates on the fly. You won't even notice the difference in how the game looks.. all you'll notice is that the game is running more smoothly. *Dogs Not Brahmin - I'd say this is an almost essential mod. It removes the pack Brahmin of caravans and provisioners and replaces them with junkyard dogs. Simple, effective and removes massive animals that end up on rooves because they have no idea how to navigate the environment. *NPCs Travel - Adds over 130 random encounters you can find patrolling across the roads of the commonwealth. It's more immersive when you bump into some minutemen wandering along and adds a bit of challenge when you bump into some gunners instead. *Loaded Loading Screens - 'but Psychosociety, why is a mod for loading screens a must have?' I'm not going to answer that question. I don't want to tell you anything else. Just install it. Trust me. *Pip-Boy Flashlight (Brighter) - Only really necessary if you have a mod that makes nights darker, but if you do, this is an absolutely essential addition. *Shotgun Surgeon Perk - This mod replaces the useless Basher perk in the strength tree with one that increases your damage with shotguns and scattered lasers. I don't consider this a cheat, I think it was an oversight on Bethesda's part to make it so no perks affect shotguns. This fixes that by replacing a useless perk with a very useful one; I believe it's balanced as 8 strength is quite the investment. *Eli's Tweaks & Fixes All In One - As it says on the tin, this is just a bunch of tweaks and fixes that really help. I'm not a big fan of the fact that it increases your resources gained from water, electricity and defense in settlements as it's a bit cheaty but that can't be helped- the rest of the changes are great ones.
There are several home mods worth mentioning that are static and don't give you a bunch of freebies. I'd recommend Elianora's Marlborough Mansion and Outfield Retreat homes, whilst Shezrie's Fenway Apartment is the one I'm currently using and liking a lot.
Now for the honorable mentions. Unified Clothing Overhaul (UCO) is an absolute must have in my opinion, but many consider it to be a cheat mod- no-one forces you to put ballistic weave on your bandana, that's your decision. SimpleSeasons is a great series of mods that allow you to change how the environment looks, making things a bit greener, but I've not included it in the list as using one of these mods compromises the 'fallout feel' for me personally. Buffed Minuteman Militia 2 is another great, well liked mod, though I don't really side with the minutemen all that often and it can mess either Integrated Commonwealth's leveled lists so I run without it (definitely a great addition if you just have the base game however!) Sanctuary Hot Springs and Settlement is an excellent player home mod however I prefer to avoid it simply because none of the decorations are static and I end up knocking everything over anyway, kinda ruining the aesthetic. OCDecorator is a great addition if you do want to decorate, I used to run with this mod a lot but unfortunately I've found running this plus USO can lead the game to crashing often when you open workshop mode. Another amazing mod is FreeFall 4- it's a pretty amazing mod that fixes a lot of bugs and fixes throughout the game and adds in cut content, however it's a mod of enormous scope and if you'd like to use it it's best to do so with it standalone- I personally use several other mods that add in some of the cut content and just live with the bugs for the sake of having a fair few mods installed. Finally I'd like to throw you cheaters a bone- Cheat Room and Freemaker are both great mods that let you pretty much make anything and get anything in the game, allowing you to so whatever the hell you like.
I'm not great at Reddit formatting so please forgive any errors, and if you have any other suggestions for mods I should add to this list please leave feedback. I hope this helps someone out there improve their Fallout 4 experience on PS4 :)
